Create an automated + sustainable sanctuary

Brianna Hatton - Wednesday, February 24, 2021

Our Automate window coverings add more to a home than just convenience, they facilitate advanced control of your indoor climate – be it natural heat or natural light. Regardless of how sophisticated your window glazing, or tint may be, they’re rarely a match for mother nature’s dynamic tendencies. Wild weather shifts, from strong sun rays, to cold overcasts, usually invite excessive use of air-conditioning, heating + lighting.

With the touch of a button your window coverings glide open or close, + stop exactly where you like. Eliminating the need for cords + chains, opting for motorised indoor + outdoor window coverings provides a seamless look throughout your home combined with a safer environment for children + pets.

Allowing you complete freedom you can control your window coverings from anywhere in your house. Control one window covering individually or all of your window coverings as a group at the one time, from a single control. We also have automated options that operate through home automation systems + can be integrated within building management systems – control your blinds, lighting, heating + cooling all within the one control.

Although it may be second nature to reach for the thermostat + reverse undesired temperature spikes, it can prove to be detrimental to yearly energy expenses, as well negatively contributing to current global climate health. Similarly, switching the lights on in your home is traditionally more convenient than manually raising blinds or opening drapes. Unfortunately, this too has a negative impact on your home, your wallet + our planet.

Traditional methods of light + heat control remain necessary for home comfort, however we’re on a mission to help reduce the impact of these traditional methods. Our Automate window covering systems add a new dimension of control + convenience that can help you break out of conventional + costly habits.

Research has found that uncovered windows are responsible for up to a 40% loss of heating energy, while conversely also contributing up to 87% of a home’s heat gain,1 depending on external weather conditions. Mitigating such high amounts of energy transfer through windows can be as simple as raising or lowering your shades at optimal times.

Motorised window coverings seamlessly integrate into modern-day living + propose a safer, more elegant + efficient solution to their manually operated counterparts. Effortlessly manage your shades with dynamic control options, from remotes to sun-sensitive sensors.

Introducing our Pulse Hub

Our Pulse Hub allows you to accurately control your window coverings via an intuitive animated interface in our app on your smartphone or tablet. Using our app, easily personalise the daily routine of your window coverings; organising them by room, grouping them by scenes + automating them with timers. With built-in Wi-Fi or the option of a LAN connection, our Pulse Hub quickly connects to the home’s network to unlock the luxury of automated window covering control.

When opting for app control using your smart phone or tablet, or voice control using your own preferred smart device, our Pulse Hub is required. Once we have finished installation, + a remote is setup + programmed for you by our installers, you can then proceed to setup the Pulse Hub to connect to your own devices.

When opting to control your window coverings solely with our Paradigm remote, our Pulse Hub is not required.

Automation is the way of the future + our exclusive + innovative systems now make it more affordable than ever before.

One tree planted for every order placed

Brianna Hatton - Monday, November 30, 2020

Dollar Curtains + Blinds is proud to partner with ‘One Tree Planted’ to promote sustainability through reforestation. We are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint and give back. What better way to do it than giving Australia more trees? And this is made possible by your orders with us.

For every order placed in December 2020, we will plant a tree on your behalf as part of One Tree Planted’s reforestation project within Australia. Trees will be planted to recover forests affected by the 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires and restore native habitat vital for wildlife, by planting in areas requiring rehabilitation or ecological diversity to provide homes for animals.

Reforestation in Australia

With over 123 million hectares of native forests, Australia has the seventh largest forest area in the world, making up three per cent of the Earth’s forests. The highly documented bushfire crisis in Australia has been one of the worst in the country’s history. The land, wildlife, people and businesses affected from this disaster has been unfathomable with nearly 6 million hectares (15 million acres) of bush devastated and over 480 million animals killed across the country, as of January 2020.

It’s with this in mind, along with One Tree Planted and the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, we are supporting the Bushfire Recovery Nurseries project to replant trees in affected locations across Australia. Locations will all have a focus on re-building habitats for affected species’ such as the black glossy cockatoo and koala.

As an Australian owned and family operated business for more than 50 years, we value these types of partnerships to give back to our local communities. Working with One Tree Planted we, along with you for choosing Dollar Curtains + Blinds, will be doing our part to reforest land and restore habitats in 2020 and beyond.

How to Increase the Value of Your Home with Curtains + Blinds

Brianna Hatton - Thursday, November 12, 2020

Most Aussie families come to a time where we wish to sell our homes. Maybe you need to move closer to work or other family members. Perhaps you have a growing family, and your house has become too small. Or perhaps you’ve got an empty nest and it’s time to downsize.

There’s also those that invest in property and come to the point that it’s time to sell. Whatever your reason, the one thing we all want is the highest price possible. Before you put your property up for sale there are clever ways to increase its market value. By investing a little into the appearance of your home, you’re more likely to get top dollar for the sale. You don’t need to invest in a major home renovation to accomplish a greater sale price. More often than not, simple cosmetic upgrades can have a great impact. Simple items like changing your curtains or  blinds can do the trick.

Below we have a few simple tips that can help you make your home more attractive to buyers using cost effective window dressings.

What room needs curtains or blinds?

Different interior décor works in different types of homes and rooms, as does window dressings. From a strategic perspective your personal taste does not matter. For the general consumer, some rooms work well with curtains, while others are better off with blinds. There are several factors to consider including the styling of the room itself, the amount of natural light it gets and how much privacy it requires.

Curtains and blinds are more than just decorative items. Part of their purpose is to control how much natural light gets inside the room and to provide privacy. Additionally, they can provide warmth in cold weather and help to allow air circulation in climates where that’s suitable.

Weigh up these factors when choosing between curtains or blinds for each of your rooms and how it may suit the lifestyle of potential buyers.

Go for neutral colours

Many of us have a hard time imagining a property with minor cosmetic changes. Using vibrant curtains or blinds in your interior decorating can be a great way to add a visual statement to your personal home. The problem is your personal sense of style may not suit potential buyers.

When you’re selling your home, it’s preferable that you use neutral colours throughout your styling. Neutral colours are understated which can also make a room appear more elegant. They are less likely to overwhelm potential buyers and therefore allow your buyers to see all the possibilities a room holds for them.

Create visual appeal

Lived in homes tend to show signs of wear and tear over the years particularly for families with young children. We don’t tend to noticed the marks, stains and tears when it’s our own home however visitors notice them immediately, particularly if they are assessing the quality of the property like a prospective buyer does. Replacing old window dressings is a great way to give the whole home a clean, fresh look.

Your curtains and blinds can be the finishing touch that makes or breaks a great sale price. The right selection for your property is the key. For example, if your living room is built with floor-to-ceiling windows with lots of natural light and a great view, installing motorised blinds can create a dramatic effect in the room. The room’s natural beauty can be shown gradually by raising the blinds with the remote control, slowly letting the light in and view revealed.

Your choice of curtains and blinds can play a huge role in how attractive your home is to buyers. We’ve all seen the reality TV shows about renovating and flipping houses and how the budgets can blow out unexpectedly.

Installing curtains and blinds is an easy way to raise your home’s market value. Contact us today for our recommendations to suit your property along with a free quote.

The 5 Benefits Of Double Roller Blinds Or Day/Night Blinds

Shane McGeorge - Tuesday, February 25, 2020

When you're looking to enhance the style and functionality of your space, window treatments are one of the most important elements. Double roller blinds, also called day/night blinds, have so much to offer in terms of both attractiveness and incredible flexibility.

How do Double Roller Blinds work?

This innovative design features two blinds that hang together on the same mechanism but operate independently. One blind is blockout material while the second is a sunscreen or sheer fabric that allows light to filter in. You can use both, switch between the two or choose partial coverage from each one. Having this level of control allows you to easily design the perfect arrangement for your needs at that moment. Learn more about why double blinds have become such a popular option.

Control Light

The biggest advantage of this window covering is having access to such a wide range of options for blocking out light or letting it stream in. For example, use the blockout blinds to create the total darkness ideal for optimising your sleep cycle and helping you wake up more rested. During the day, sheer blinds can be utilised to allow varying amounts of light for reading or working. Double roller blinds are highly adaptable to your specific lifestyle and preferences.

Ensure Privacy

If you live close to the neighbours or have large windows that face the street, having adequate privacy is a real concern. Double roller blinds are an excellent solution for helping you maintain privacy, especially during the day when you want to enjoy natural light. The sheer blinds are designed to allow sunlight and provide views of the outdoors while still acting as an effective barrier that prevents outsiders from looking in. You're able to get the best of both worlds.

This window solution is designed to optimize how your home functions throughout the entire year, allowing you to enjoy your space as much as possible. One reason why double roller blinds are so popular in Australia is that you can choose a sunscreen material with built-in UV protection as the fabric for your sheer blinds. Having this crucial protection is important during the summer. Not only can a sunscreen protect your home's occupants from the harmful effects of solar glare, but it can also protect your furniture and textiles from getting faded over time. Double roller blinds also help the home become more energy-efficient and comfortable because the material provides an extra layer of insulation, keeping you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summertime.

Attractive and Sleek

Along with versatility and high functionality, double roller blinds are a very stylish window covering option. At Dollar Curtains + Blinds, we have a wide range of colors, patterns, textures, and fabrics to choose from. Whether you prefer neutral tones or a more colorful approach, we have the options for creating a perfect look. The simple lines of double roller blinds can fit right in with any decor and will even combine perfectly with curtains.

Durable and Easy to Use

All our roller blinds are manufactured in Melbourne, Australia. They're solidly constructed with quality materials, including sturdy fabric and a steel double bracket system. Double roller blinds are easy to clean and designed to be enjoyed for many years to come. We have options for operating the blinds manually with a chain drive or by remote control, but either method is very simple. This window solution is a very low maintenance and seamless addition to the home.

Double roller blinds offer you high functionality and a great look. If you want to enhance your home with this attractive window covering option, Dollar Curtains + Blinds can help. We offer a wide range of products, friendly staff, and high-quality professional installation. Contact us to learn more about our great double roller blind options.

Rollashield sentry bushfire roller shutters

Shane McGeorge - Tuesday, February 18, 2020

It is common knowledge that hot or burning embers entering the home during a bushfire is a major factor in the ignition of the building itself. Our Rollashield sentry roller shutters have been credited with saving homes from burning to the ground when other surrounding properties were not so fortunate.

The sentry roller shutter has been extensively tested by the CSIRO under severe bushfire simulated conditions and proved to be able to withstand a maximum radiant heat exposure of 40 kw/m2 after 60 minutes. As no ignition or flaming was observed throughout the testing, the sentry roller shutter has received a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) of 40.

Sentry roller shutters are designed with the sentry fireshield extruded slat profile, making them ideal for residential or commercial use when added strength and security is required. When assembled with our extended guides, the roller shutter can span to a maximum of 4600mm in width.

Along with bushfire protection, there are many additional benefits to installing our roller shutters on your windows and doors. Rollashield shutters not only offer protection and peace of mind, they provide a more comfortable and eco-friendly environment. Lightweight yet extremely strong the shutter consists of an aluminium skin injected with a polyurethane foam for added strength and insulation qualities.

Increases security + privacy – Window shutters present an immediate visible deterrent, protecting your home against burglary and vandalism. They offer you privacy during both day and night. You control the extent by simply adjusting the shutter to suit your needs. When fully open the shutter is completely out of sight leaving you unrestricted views through your window.

Increases insulation – Shutters offer thermal insulation properties that reduce the effects of summer heat as well as retaining the warmth during the colder winter months.

Energy cost savings - The cost of heating and cooling your home is substantially reduced all year round making this product an ideal investment for the future. Rollashield shutters can save up to 40% energy savings on heating and cooling costs.

Noise + light control - University tests have proven that roller shutters have a positive effect in the reduction of noise levels from outside of the home. Light and ventilation can be adjusted to create a pleasant, softly lit atmosphere.

Manufactured right here in Australia, our roller shutters are available in several painted coatings that are long lasting and fade resistant under the most demanding conditions.

We offer several operating options available which allow you to control your roller shutters with the touch of a button from inside your home. Our e-series drive system is an affordable motorised control system that is battery operated and therefore not reliant on mains power. Solar charging is also available.

Roller shutters are available in selected stores. Please contact your local store for more information.
