When Sharon and her husband Robbie decided to build a new home in the beautiful seaside town of Batemans Bay on NSW’s south coast, it was all about the view.

Having secured a block of land with stunning views over the azure waters of Batemans Bay itself, they worked with an architect to design a spacious home that would offer the ultimate low-maintenance, holiday-at-home lifestyle for the couple and their teenage sons.

“We designed our home with our architect to not only make the most of the views but to be north facing to capture the sun during the winter months and to shield the living spaces from the hot sun in the summer,” explains Sharon.

“The north facing aspect is one of the best things about our new home,” she says.

Life's a beach.

After an 18 month build, the couple are now the proud owners of a gorgeously airy home with four bedrooms, two living areas and, perhaps not surprisingly given the location, an outdoor shower and pool.

To preserve the stunning views, the couple chose a minimalist, monochromatic design for their contemporary home’s interior, using simple white walls combined with natural materials such as concrete, wood, and stone.

“We’ve gone for clean lines and an easy-care, minimalist look inside,” explains Sharon.

When it came to the window coverings, aesthetics but also practicality were top of mind.

“We chose the curtains and blinds throughout our home not only because of how they looked and to add some softness to the interior, but also to work with our orientation and provide extra coverage all year round,” says Sharon.

“I aimed for a clean, minimalist feel throughout, while also ensuring energy efficiency”.

Sharon chose dollar curtains + blinds Batemans Bay store to design, manufacture and install curtains, blinds and awnings throughout the home.

Catching a wave.

In the dining area, they chose beautiful ceiling-to-floor Wave Fold Sheer Curtains in linen-look fabric Kindness in colour white, with white tracks to soften the space and add a wow factor. They find they reduce glare while still allowing daylight to filter through.

“I had Sheers in our old home and it was an easy decision to install them in our new house,” explains Sharon.

“We also put them in our master bedroom and they soften the whole space along with creating a barrier between the room and the window.”

Ocean bliss.

Elsewhere, the couple opted for motorised Cellular Blinds in Hendrix Blockout fabric in colour Frostline in the bedrooms, as well as the translucent fabric in the kitchen and living area.

With amazing views from most windows in the house, Sharon wanted Blinds that worked with and enhanced the views rather than hiding them completely.

“The Cellular Blinds sit neatly in the reveal so when we have the Blinds open, they are hidden and then when they are closed, they still look neat and tidy. I’ve had many comments from visitors to our home who love the way they look.” says Sharon.

“I had always wanted to install Cellular Blinds in this build. I fell in love with the look + energy efficiency of them.”

An automated retreat.

Automated Zipscreen Awnings in a breathable core mesh were chosen for the home’s outdoor entertaining area, turning it into a practical and comfortable space, sheltered from the sun, wind and glare.

“The Zipscreen Awnings are fantastic. They have created a totally different feel when they are closed, giving the space a new sheltered area,” says Sharon.
