When Debbie and her husband Ashley first bought a tiny two bedroom home in an idyllic seaside village near Narooma on NSW’s South Coast, they never intended to live in it.

The small dated home was on a block of land adjacent to one of the couple’s businesses, a pre-school, which their original plan was to convert the house into additional space for the pre-school and expand the outdoor area for the children to play in. So the couple started work on the house but their plans changed when they realised it would actually be an ideal home for them.

“As the renovation progressed, our affection for the property deepened”. explains Debbie.

“Recognising it’s single level layout and accessibility, we decided to make this our home for retirement. We love to travel and wanted a low maintenance home that would suit us in the later years of life.”

Operate each Zipscreen Awning individually or as a group at the one time from a single control.

“We’ve used dollar curtains + blinds before in our business + were so happy with the finished result that we didn’t hesitate in calling them to help with our own renovation. They offered great advice + support throughout the whole process.”

Classic coastal.

Covid lockdowns meant the couple had the opportunity to throw themselves into renovating and extending their home. “Despite the challenges of Covid, the renovation progressed rapidly. We poured our hearts and resources into creating a welcoming haven,” remembers Debbie.

Inspired by the elegance of Hamptons-style cottages, Debbie and Ashley enlisted the help of dollar curtains + blinds Batemans Bay store to elevate their new home, both on a practical and aesthetic front.

“Although I had a rough idea of what I wanted, the dc+b team guided me with sizing, shape, style + design. The interior consultant arrived at the house with lots of samples so I could get a true picture of what the eventual outcome would be.”

A touch of luxury.

For the interior of the house, Debbie chose a mixture of Plantation Shutters which were used throughout the original part of the house and automated Blockout Roller Blinds in Huntington fabric, colour white in the new entertainment extension.

The team at dollar curtains + blinds also suggested white Aluminium Shutters in a bifold style for the area behind the couple’s new spa on the deck. As they are sun, wind and water proof, the Aluminium Shutters provide a stylish and practical solution for patios, balconies, verandas and windows, allowing users to take control of privacy, security, ventilation, light and views.

“I didn’t know I needed Aluminium Shutters until they were suggested to me but now I think they are my favourite addition,” smiles Debbie. “They add a touch of class and are easy to use.”

“The Plantation Shutters add a classic Hamptons look to the house + are also very easy to clean, while the Blockout Roller Blinds give a clean, fresh look as well as adding privacy + darkness when the room is used for guests.”

Finally, the couple installed automated Zipscreen Awnings with Channel Guide in colour Blackstone to enclose the spacious deck for year round usability.

“The Awnings not only protect us from insects and unpredictable weather but also enhance privacy, particularly around the spa area,” says Debbie.

“We couldn’t be happier with our latest experience of working with dollar curtains + blinds. The house looks a million dollars. In fact, we recently had it valued + were blown away by how much value their products have added to our home.”
