After Rachael and her partner finished building a townhouse near the beach in Rosebud, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, she couldn’t wait to bring her dreams of a relaxed coastal interior to life.

“The house is modern with a warm, coastal feeling opening up to a beautiful green garden for our kids to play in. We love it,” says Rachael.

“We chose a monochromatic palette with lots of texture and warmth added with carefully selected fittings and finishes.”

The window furnishings played an important part in this and Rachael approached Interior Consultant Jess and the team at dollar curtains + blinds’ Mornington store to help her bring her vision to life.

“We trusted the team to be able to deliver beautiful window furnishings. With a huge range of options from Blinds to Curtains, Sheers to Plantation Shutters, working with dollar curtains + blinds gave us the ability to ensure the window furnishings we selected were right for our space,” she says.

Rachael’s goal was to transform the space from a newly-built house to a home, creating a warm and inviting feeling in every room.

“We were keen to ensure the Curtains looked and felt luxurious and that they worked with and enhanced all the soft furnishings, creating a cohesive space overall,” explains Rachael.

“The motorised Blinds have been a game-changer – completely transforming the large panes of glass. To wake up, and be able to press a button and have natural light stream in, feels like such a treat, and in this case, an affordable and accessible one. It’s a luxury resort feature in our own home.”

Layered approach.

In the main living area, floor-to-ceiling Wave Fold Sheer Curtains in Capri fabric in White were layered over Blockout Roller Blinds in Evolve fabric in White. The same combination was used in the guest bedroom although here Morrison fabric in Vanilla was used for the Wave Fold Sheer Curtains while the Blockout Roller Blinds were in Evolve colour Blanched.

The living area also features soft Roman Blinds in Mosman fabric in a Mist colourway. The Roman Blinds have luxurious pleated folds which are raised fold by fold to create a soft layered look.

Both the Roman Blinds and Roller Blinds in the house are automated with a battery-operated operation (no hard wiring or electrician required) using dollar curtains + blinds’ wireless Paradigm remote.

“The motorised Blinds have been a game-changer – completely transforming the large panes of glass. To wake up, and be able to press a button and have natural light stream in, feels like such a treat, and in this case, an affordable and accessible one,” says Rachael.

“It’s a luxury resort feature in our own home,” she adds.

Double Curtains were chosen for the children’s bedroom, where Wave Fold Sheer Curtains in Morrison Birch were layered in front of Blockout Curtains in Sierra Ivory on custom-made curved tracking.  Layering the Sheers in front means you can see the beautiful textured weave of the sheer fabric while also providing daytime privacy as well as concealing a nearby fence.

In the master bedroom, Rachael opted for lined Wave Fold Blockout Curtains in Mosman Sand fabric, ensuring complete light and privacy control. These were chosen without a Sheer product behind to reduce the projection into the room.

The Curtains elegantly drape from ceiling to floor before draping on the floor in a contemporary 1cm Kissing finish.

“It gives a look of luxury and when you take Curtains up to the ceiling, it sends the eye up and gives the impression that the ceiling is actually higher than it is as well as opening up a room.”

New heights.

According to dollar curtain + blinds’ Interior Consultant Jess, taking the Curtains up to the ceiling is “very on-trend” at the moment.

“It gives a look of luxury and when you take Curtains up to the ceiling, it sends the eye up and gives the impression that the ceiling is actually higher than it is as well as opening up a room,” she says.

Rachael couldn’t be happier with the finished result.

“We really couldn’t have asked for anything more. The dollar curtains + blinds products chosen have elevated the home, providing textural details and flexibility in the various spaces, in terms of privacy and shade at various times of the day.”

“We really can’t fault the finish, the service and the exceptional quality, the overall outcome has far exceeded our expectations,” she added.
