“Your beautiful sheers helped bring a sense of calm and soften the overall home. They blended into the interiors perfectly, complemented each room, provided enough filtered light yet didn’t take away from the stunning views surrounding the property.”

We chat to Emily Jury, Interior Stylist + Designer at Nectaar.

We sit down with Emily to find out more about her new home and where her design inspiration comes from.

Three words that best describe you?

Creative, driven, compassionate.

What’s your ideal day?

        1. Sunshine, good company, gnocchi and Aperol Spritz.

      What’s your favourite colour?

            1. Green.

What is your most cherished possession?

        1. Well now our new home.

What’s on your interiors wish list right now?

                  1. It’s a long list! However I do have my eye on the perfect rug from Designer Rugs.

                What’s your interior style?

                      1. Being an Interior Designer I can appreciate so many different styles. Just selecting one is impossible for me. I love too much. That is why it was so hard designing my own home. My design brief kept changing during the two years it took to start the build. We ended up with a very serene, calm, neutral palette which was completely opposite to where we started. We love the end result!

Do you live in a house or apartment?

  1. We live in a house on a 18 acre orchard in Harcourt VIC.

What’s your favourite room and why?

  1. The Mud Room entrance. I designed this space with my husband in mind. Living with a farmer on an orchard gets messy and this space is perfect for those dirty, muddy work boots.

What are the 3 most important things that make your home feel like a home?

  1. Family, our Blue Heeler Roughy, the sense of calm the interiors create and the country landscape surrounding the home.

What was your biggest splurge when designing your home?

  1. The Taj Mahal Stone from CDK used in the Kitchen and Bathrooms.

What lesson(s) did you learn when you designed your home?

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff and be open to change.

When it comes to designing a home, what does your design process look like?

  1. Lots and lots of research, collating inspiration, playing with different materials. Visualising and understanding the intended purpose of the home and each space within it.

  1. What are your top 3 design/style tips for building or renovating a house?
    1. Design with continuity in mind, choose quality materials and finishes, engage a professional.

    1. You’re given a limited renovation budget; how would you spend it wisely to transform a home?
    1. Determine the exact budget then allocate a portion to the ‘hero’ areas of the home first. We refer to Kitchens and bathrooms (wet areas) of the home as ‘hero’ spaces. These are generally the most pricey to renovate and the areas of the home where you can’t afford to make a mistake you want to do it right the first time. Whether your home requires a full gut or just a cosmetic renovation either way these areas of the home will make a dent in your budget. Then it’s a fresh coat of paint and update handles on existing joinery.

What’s the biggest interior design mistake you’ve ever made?

  1. Not measuring twice. What’s the saying, measure twice cut once?

What qualities do you look for when choosing materials, furniture and accessories in your designs?

  1. Quality, longevity, timeless, unique pieces that evoke joy.

Are you a curtains, blinds or shutters person?

  1. Curtains and Blinds.

“The block out blinds provided the necessary coverage to allow the best sleep ins. Our selections really finished the space perfectly both functionally and aesthetically.”

What products did you choose from dc+b?

  1. Sheer Curtains and Blockout Roller Blinds.

How did our products transform your home?

Your beautiful sheers helped bring a sense of calm and soften the overall home. They blended into the interiors perfectly, complemented each room, provided enough filtered light yet didn’t take away from the stunning views surrounding the property. Some people find it difficult to decide what to do with their windows. Any tips?

  1. Engage a professional. Each window and home is unique so it isn’t one size fits all. Speak to a consultant and get inspired.

How do you find inspiration? (dc+b magazine, website, socials, in-store).

  1. dc+b socials, magazines and in-store.

What design project(s) are you working on at the moment?

  1. Sooooo many!! We have some gorgeous Nectaar projects in their final stages and have recently started several new exciting ones. Ranging from hair salons, office spaces, full renovations and new builds. It’s a very busy time at the office.Next up for Project Harcourt is a nursery design for baby Jury arriving later this year.
