Wave Fold Curtains

Fabric Material.

Another important aspect of the fabric is the type of material. This affects both the look and feel, and the performance of the fabric.

Linen Fabrics.

As the earthy trend continues to gain momentum in Australia, natural materials are gaining popularity. One of the most sought-after natural Curtain fabric materials is Linen.

However, before selecting real Linen Curtain fabrics, there are a few things to be aware of:

  • Linen colours fade in sunlight, and overtime this can create patchy and uneven Curtains
  • the material creases and can have an odour, which dissipates over time
  • Linen fabrics can shrink in humid environments, including when exposed to sunlight, in coastal regions or when used in bathrooms, meaning there can be movement in the length of your Curtains.

When designing Linen Curtains, it’s recommended to add more length to the drop to allow for this possible shrinkage i.e. design Linen Curtains to puddle on the floor.

To overcome these issues, dollar curtains + blinds have a range of linen-look Curtain fabrics available. Made from polyester, or a polyester / linen blend, these high-quality fabrics look just like 100% Linen but offer superior performance and longevity.

Triple Pinch Pleat Curtains

Velvet Fabrics.

Luxurious in nature, Velvet fabrics continue to be a popular choice with its soft and tactile handle. Velvet Drapes create an opulent look and are especially popular in stately homes and theatre rooms, often combined with custom made Pelmets.

Polyester fabrics or man made blends.

By far the most popular material for Curtains in Australia is polyester or a blend combining polyester or rayon with cotton, wool or linen.

Man-made fibres have come a long way since the ‘70s and many have such a soft, luxurious or textured appearance that they look just like natural materials.

Polyester fibres can be designed with a slubbed texture, creating a luxury look of a Dupion silk (pure silk) without compromising on performance.

The benefits of polyester fabrics are they:

  • are highly stain-resistant and easy to clean
  • can resemble natural fabrics like cotton, linen and silk
  • do not fade in sunlight
  • are less likely to wrinkle and will not shrink
  • often have good washability

How did you find the design + measure + install service?

I couldn’t fault it! I didn’t have to do a thing. I opened my door to the dollar curtains + blinds installer and closed it a few hours later with gorgeous Curtains, Blinds and Shutters installed.

Did you originally know what you were after in terms of window coverings or were you seeking our advice?

I’d say a little bit of both. I’ve always been drawn to the warm vibe and look the Sheer Curtains provide so that was a must. There were a few decisions such as Roller Blind vs Blockout Curtains and partial wall Curtains vs. wall to wall Curtains, that’s where Liz really helped with my indecisiveness.

The Curtain Track you select can either be a discreet track designed to drop away or a decorative track that enhances the look of your Curtains. In contemporary homes it’s most common for a minimalist Curtain Track to be used. Whereas in traditional interiors, decorative Curtain Rods have been gaining popularity.

We cover everything there is to know about curtain rods, tracks and headers in this article.

Another decision is whether to use a Pelmet or not. A Curtain Pelmet is a decorative and functional element used in window treatments. It is a horizontal board or fabric covering that is mounted above the window, concealing the Curtain Rod or Track and the top of the Curtains or draperies.

Pelmets are used in both traditional and modern homes and can achieve a designer look. They also minimise heat transfer through windows, adding to the thermal benefits of your curtains.

Banding + trims.

It can be difficult to manage window coverings in commercial buildings. The volume of windows often present in large structures can be easily and quickly managed effectively with our Automate® range and the Pulse Hub. Commercial buildings and businesses can benefit in many ways from a centralised point of control for managing natural light and heat.

Additionally, schedules and triggers can move shades throughout the day based on the position of the sun, creating the perfect interior climate for customers and employees while significantly reducing the time, effort and energy needed to provide a comfortable space.

Blockout Cutains

Curtain Width Options

Width

It always good to aim for wall to wall if there is wall space available or if not, go as wide as possible. This means when drawn open the stack back covers less of the window therefore maximising your view and natural light.

Curtain Height Options

Height

Where possible go high and wide. Curtains can be installed on the ceiling, known as ceiling fit or fixed to the wall, known as face fit. It’s best to go ceiling to floor or as high as you can go if there is ample wall space. Doing so adds the illusion of height to windows and rooms while also having practical benefits such as blocking out light and increasing insulation.

Why more customers are choosing Blackout/Blockout Thermal Curtains.

A great choice for bedrooms or dining/living rooms, choose from our range of coated fabrics or select an uncoated fabric with lining fabric attached. If you’re looking for complete light control then lined Blackout Thermal Curtains are the ideal solution – combined with Pelmets you can enjoy the ultimate in room darkening and insulation.

There is a significant amount of attention and care that goes into every step of the creation of our custom-made Blockout Curtains and as a result, they are more durable and last longer.

Replacing or repairing inferior window coverings due to damage or age can end up costing more than they are worth, so custom Blackout/Blockout Curtains crafted from good quality fabrics and hardware will save you a lot of money long term.

All our Curtains – including our thermal Blockout Curtains are made to your specific measurements ensuring a snug fit for your windows and doors. This assists with your home’s insulation which is more energy efficient and results in savings on your energy bills.

Insulation.

  • Blackout / Blockout Curtains are the best Curtains for insulation all year round
  • Savings on energy bills
  • Reduction in outside noise levels
  • Lining fabric creates a layer of trapped air + further insulation
  • Add Pelmets for best insulation to trap air from inside + out

  • Layering Sheer Curtains is important for privacy + light control.
  • Layer Sheer Curtains over Roller Blinds, Roman Blinds or Shutters to create night-time privacy and block daylight.
  • For the ideal combination pair Sheer and Blockout Curtains together with Double Curtains.
