We caught up with Esme Beaumont — Managing Director of Ecoliv, to discuss their recent EcoGeneration 2A display home.

It was a pleasure to collaborate with their team on selecting window coverings that aligned with their regenerative, climate-positive design vision.

Our Wonthaggi team professionally installed our designer Sheer Curtains from our recycled range, along with Roller Blinds for added practicality and style.

At Ecoliv, their team takes pride in designing and constructing prefab modular homes for the Australian landscape and lifestyle. Their homes are responsible, renewable and contribute to a regenerative future.

As two proudly Australian Owned companies, we collaborated to select window coverings that not only enhance the warm, lived-in feel of the modular home, but also to support Ecoliv's ongoing commitment to sustainability.

“The Curtains truly completed the EcoGeneration display home. Architecturally, they add softness to the clean modular lines. Functionally, they improve insulation, comfort and acoustics.”

What was the initial vision/design concept for the EcoGeneration display home?

The vision for the EcoGeneration 2A display home was to create a high performance, regenerative, climate-positive home that feels calm, grounded, and deeply connected to its surroundings. We wanted it to demonstrate that prefab modular construction can also be refined, contemporary, and beautifully resolved.

The interior palette was intentionally warm and textural, with natural timbers, soft neutrals, and layered materials, so that the home feels inviting rather than clinical. Every selection needed to support both performance and atmosphere.

What were your ‘must haves’ in this build?

  • Excellent thermal performance and energy efficiency
  • Natural light balanced with privacy and shading control
  • Materials that feel honest, durable, and timeless
  • A cohesive, calming aesthetic throughout
  • Window coverings that enhanced comfort without overpowering the architecture
  • Curtains and Blinds were essential. Not just for styling, but for insulation, softness, and acoustic comfort

When did you contact us during the building process and what benefits did dc+b provide?

We engaged dc+b during the finishing stage, once window placements and interior palettes were locked in, but before final styling. The key benefit of working with our local Wonthaggi store was that they understood both the design intent and practical application.

They were able to advise on fabric weight, lining options, and Curtain Track systems that would support thermal performance while achieving the relaxed, tailored look we were after. Their early involvement ensured that the window furnishings complemented the architecture rather than feeling like an afterthought.

Was it beneficial to visit dc+b in-store or having our team come out to you?

Visiting in-store was extremely beneficial to view the Track options available. Being able to see and feel the fabrics in person, observe how they drape and compare tones under natural light made a significant difference in final selections.

That said, having the team understand the home context – like the light quality, ceiling heights and overall palette, was equally valuable. The combination of both touchpoints helped us make a confident decision.

How did you find the measure + install service?

The measure + install service was seamless and professional. Precision is critical in a display home, and the attention to detail ensured the Curtains sat perfectly – clean lines, consistent drops and beautifully finished Tracks. It removed stress from the process and ensured that the final result matched the design intent perfectly.

When it comes to designing a home, what does your design process look like?

Our process always begins with performance. We prioritise orientation, passive solar design, ventilation and material efficiency. From there, we layer in materiality and mood – asking how the space should feel, how it will be lived in, and how it connects to nature. We design holistically, meaning every decision, from insulation to soft furnishings, must support comfort, longevity and sustainability.

What qualities do you look for when choosing materials, furniture or accessories in your designs?

  • Selecting recycled/circular materials like we did for our Curtains
  • Australian Made and Owned companies
  • Longevity and durability
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Tactility and warmth
  • Timelessness over trends
  • Functional contribution (thermal, acoustic, comfort)
  • Materials that age gracefully and enhance wellbeing, not just visually but experientially

What products did you choose from dc+b and why?

We selected full-height Sheer Curtains from one of James Dunlop Textiles’ recycled fabric collections, as part of dc+b’s designer fabric range. The fabric comes from existing PET plastic bottles that are reconstructed and repurposed into yarn, paired with blockout linings in key spaces.

The Sheer Curtains soften the natural light and add movement and warmth, while the blockout layers enhance privacy and thermal performance. The dark green fabric tones were chosen to complement the timber and neutral palette, maintaining a calm, cohesive interior language.

How have our products helped transform the display home?

The Curtains have truly completed the home in various ways. Architecturally, they add softness to the clean modular lines. Functionally, they improve insulation, comfort and acoustics.

Most importantly, they shift the space from feeling like a display to feeling like a lived-in home. They create warmth, depth, and atmosphere – reinforcing the idea that high performance prefab modular homes can also be beautifully layered, luxurious and inviting.

“The measure + install service was seamless and professional. Precision is critical in a display home, and the attention to detail ensured the Curtains sat perfectly. Clean lines, consistent drops and beautifully finished Tracks.”
