“Visiting our local dc+b showroom was so helpful! I got to see the Curtain Tracks and Rods in person, and properly understand how they operate. This was incredibly beneficial, since the design I was going for was something I hadn't previously used in any of our other building and design projects.”

— Kasey

  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you live.

We’re Kasey and Bradley, living our best life together in a little country town called Ballan, just outside of Daylesford in regional Victoria. Bradley owns his own building company, Keibra Homes, and I (Kasey) work for a volume builder while running my own Interior Design business on the side. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

We’re both big foodies, so you’ll often find us exploring local spots and dining out whenever we can. At home, we’ve got a full house of fur babies – Kevin, Audrey, Justine, and Rusty. Honestly, they run the place. We’re just along for the ride!

  1. What type of home did you build – describe the style/design?
  1. Brad first designed this home before we met. He designed it as a spec home, intending to flip it in the future. However, once I stepped inside, I could see we had very similar taste. The home blends Modern Country charm with thoughtful details in the skirting boards and architraves, high ceilings, weatherboard siding, red brick, and now a lush new English cottage garden that feels timeless.

The heart of the home, the kitchen, is a class white-on-white design with subway tiles. It’s the perfect blend of country while keeping it modern to appeal to anyones taste. I actually can’t imagine parting with it now!

  1. What did you look for when finding land – location, size etc?
  2. When selecting land for flipping homes, we always prioritise smaller lots where we can maximise space. It’s a smart, cost-effective approach that allows us to design and build a lot of home without overwhelming the site. These properties tend to move quickly in our local market, making them ideal for a successful flip.

    1. Tell us about the planning process about choosing your trades and how you went about it.
    2. When it came to work together as the builder and designer for our home, it was crucial for us to ensure that both our personal tastes and professional skills were perfectly aligned. As a couple, we wanted to create a cohesive vision for our home, where Brad’s building expertise and my design sensibilities would seamlessly come together. We approached the planning process with a shared vision, showing that our collaboration needed to reflect both our individual styles and our collective goals.

  1. We began by exploring options that resonated with us personally. Brad, with his own company, bought a wealth of construction knowledge, while I turned to dollar curtains + blinds for design inspiration. We meticulously reviewed fabric samples, visited our local showroom, and consulted with the team to ensure every detail was just right. Drawing inspiration from home tours on YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, and my travels through Europe helped refine our ideas. This thoughtful approach allowed us to create a home that feels uniquely ours, blending warmth, charm, and elegance in every space.

      1. Did you look through any display homes for inspiration?
      2. As an Interior Designer working for a volume builder, I have the unique advantage of getting a first look at display homes and fresh designs before they’re unveiled to the public. Collaborating with our design team is one of my favourite parts of my job – it’s a constant source of inspiration that I love bringing into my own projects!

      1. What were the ‘must-haves’ in your new home?

      2. Once I moved in, the must haves were definitely Curtains and Shutters.

    1. Have you added anything to your home?
  1. I’ve definitely put my stamp on what was once Brad’s very short lived man cave as he was only in the home for a few months prior to me moving in, turning it into a cosy and welcoming home for both of us. I added the beautiful Blockout Curtains, Plantation Shutters, and Zipscreen Awnings from dc+b to give the space a more polished feel.

  1. In the kitchen, I swapped out the standard cabinetry handles for something that feels more high end and elevated. Outside, I’ve started working on transforming the backyard into an English cottage garden – a peaceful retreat where we can both relax once it’s all finished.

  1. When did you contact us during the building process and what benefits did dc+b provide?
  1. As soon as we decided I’d be moving in, we got onto it right away! We reached out to dollar curtains + blinds for a free measure + quote so that by the time I was settled in, the Curtains would be installed and ready.

How did you find the measure + install service?

  1. The service from the Melton store was truly exceptional! I cannot recommend them enough. Nicole and Shane’s communication, customer service, and overall friendliness played a significant role in our decision to choose dc+b. The installation went off without a hitch, and the Installers were thrilled with the fabric we picked.

  1. Was it beneficial to visit dc+b in-store?

It definitely was. I visited the Geelong showroom since I was living there at the time, and I had something very specific in mind. I went through countless fabric samples before finally finding the perfect one.

Being in the showroom was so helpful – I got to see the Curtain Tracks and Rods in person and properly understand how they operate. This was incredibly beneficial, especially since the design I was going for was something I hadn’t previously used in an of our other build/design projects.

Did you originally know what you were after in terms of window coverings or were you seeking our advice?

  1. From the moment I walked into the home, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to create. Still, it’s always beneficial to get expert advice. So, I reached out to the team at dollar curtains + blinds for their professional input. The team then bought samples right to our home, which was incredibly helpful in refining and confirming my design selections.

What is your favourite room and why?

Our favourite room is definitely the combined kitchen, dining, and living area. It’s the heart of our home and where we spend most of our time. This space features beautiful furniture, cherished keepsakes, family photos, and lovely garden views. And – of course, our new Curtains and Shutters complete the look perfectly.

    1. What is your most cherished posession?
    1. Good question! Our most treasured items I would say is our own personal memory boxes that we hold dear. We have our childhood photos and keepsakes that remind us of the special moments of our early years of life.

What are the 3 most important things that make your house feel like a home?

  1. As a designer, I always emphasise making your home deeply personal. For us, surrounding ourselves with family photos creates those special moments that spark memories and emotions – this is what truly makes a house a home.

  1. Window treatments are essential in adding that homely touch. They soften the space, introduce warmth and texture, and make the environment feel inviting and comfortable.

  1. Let’s not forget about layering! Soft furnishings, cushions, throws, rugs, fresh flowers, and candles are non negotiables in our home. These layers bring depth and a cosy, lived-in feel that’s essential for creating a welcoming space.

    1. What’s on your interior wish list right now?
  1. Right now, our interior wish list includes adding some elegant wallpaper to the primary bedroom. We haven’t installed it yet, but I’m not the lookout for the perfect sample that will bring a new later of sophistication and warmth to the space.

            1. What are your top 3 design/style tips for renovating a house?

Firstly, prioritise functionality in every space. Beautiful design should not sacrifice practicality, especially in high-traffic areas like kitchens or bathrooms.

          1. Secondly, choose durable materials, but also ensure they align with your style vision. Incorporate a mix of textures, like wood, stone, metal, and textiles, to create depth and visual interest. This layering brings warmth and character to a space, making it feel more lived-in and inviting.

Thirdly, start with a neutral palette for walls and large furniture pieces, then introduce colour through accessories, art, or smaller decor items. This allows flexibility to change styles over time without major renovations while still creating a cosy, polished look.

You’re given a limited renovation budget. How would you spend it wisely to transform a home?

With a limited renovation budget, I’d focus on making smart, high-impact choices. I’d prioritise the most used or visible areas, like the kitchen or living room. A few key updates in these spaces, such as lighting or fixtures, can significantly change the overall feel of the home.

A fresh coat of paint in neutral tones can instantly transform any room without breaking the bank. Small changes, like updating cabinet hardware or faucets, can also give spaces a modern, refreshed look. I’d choose a few timeless furniture pieces or decor items that can make a big impact. Adding texture with items like pillows, rugs, or throws is a simple, affordable way to make the space feel more complete and inviting.

When it comes to designing a home, what does your design process look like?

  1. When designing a home, our process is all about creating a space that feels both personal and timeless. It begins with a deep dive into our vision, which involves understanding the client’s or our needs and the unique characteristics of the space. We start by gathering inspiration from various sources, including home tours, design magazines, and our travels – always keeping an eye out for elements that resonate with the overall vision.

        1. From there, we focus on creating the right floor plan for the block of land that has form and function and selecting the perfect materials and finishes. We carefully choose fabrics, textures, and colours that complement each other and enhance the space’s natural light and character. This includes everything from picking out tiles, fittings and fixtures, wallpaper, textiles, and furniture.

      1. We also believe in layering elements to add depth and personality. This means incorporating soft furnishings, artwork, and accessories that make the space feel inviting and complete. Throughout the process, we maintain a keen eye for detail, ensuring that every decision aligns with the overall design concept and creates a cohesive, elegant home that feels both timeless and uniquely personal.

What qualities do you look for when choosing materials, furniture, and accessories in your designs?

  1. I look for a balance of durability, aesthetic appeal, and functionality. I prioritise materials that are built to last, especially in high-traffic areas. Whether it’s furniture or finishes, I want pieces that can stand the test of time and still look great years down the line. Investing in quality furniture will pay for itself in the long run. I lean towards classic styles that won’t quickly go out of fashion.

  1. Neutral tones, clean lines, and simple yet elegant pieces allow for flexibility in evolving the space over time without needing to overhaul everything. I love incorporating different textures and layers to make a space feel welcoming and lived-in. Whether through textiles, natural wood, or mixed metals, this adds depth and character to any room.

Are you a Curtains, Blinds, or Shutters person?

I am all the things! How can you choose one over the other…

Some people find it difficult to decide what to do with their windows. Any tips?

  1. Keep it simple and timeless. Opt for neutral, classic fabrics like linen or cotton that allow natural light to filter through while adding softness to the room. These materials work well in almost any space and won’t compete with other design elements.

  1. Layer for depth, consider layering with a combination of curtains and shades. This adds dimension and gives you more control over privacy and light. A natural woven shade paired with light drapery creates a balanced look with texture and warmth.

  1. Tailor your space, the scale and style of window treatments should match the room’s overall vibe. For a formal space, you might choose tailored, floor-length drapes, while in a more casual room, relaxed Roman shades or simple shutters might work better.

  1. How do you find inspiration?

I absolutely love watching home tours on YouTube! There are so many incredible homes showcased that offer endless inspiration. Of course, like many, I turn to Instagram and Pinterest for fresh ideas. One of my biggest sources of inspiration is traveling through Europe. There’s something truly magical about experiencing the design and charm of different European spaces firsthand.

What products did you choose from dc+b?

  1. In our kitchen area, we opted for classic Plantation Shutters, which blend seamlessly with the space. For the dining room, living room, and primary bedroom, we selected Pinch Pleat Lined Curtains with Black Decorator Tracking. For our outside entertainment area, we got Zipscreen Awnings which provide the perfect screening option all year round.

How did our products transform your home?

  1. The products we selected from dollar curtains + blinds truly transformed our home, making it feel like a completely new space. The changes brought incredible warmth and charm, elevating the interiors to a whole new level. The Curtains added the perfect touch of personality to areas that previously felt cold and lacked that special something. For our outdoor area, the Zipscreen Awnings added the perfect finishing touch, allowing us to relax outside no matter what the weather is like.
