Window coverings can really make a home and enhance your property’s value so it’s important to care for them.

Curtains + Drapes.

  • Always refer to the Care Instruction Label fixed to the back of your Curtains before cleaning. Always remove any hooks, rings or trims before any cleaning.
  • Keep your Curtains dust-free by undertaking regular gentle vacuuming with the appropriate soft vacuum attachment. Removing dust from the folds and headings will help stop grit from corroding the fabric.
  • If there are any marks on your Curtains they can be spot washed either with a ‘spotter’ or a damp cloth. Before spot cleaning the Curtain ensure you test a small part of the fabric that is not visible to confirm that it will not leave a water mark. Ensure the fabric is dried immediately after spot cleaning to avoid any water marks. Prior to spot cleaning check your Curtains Care Instruction label.

Tips – from the Curtain experts!

  • Once your Curtains are installed, we always recommend leaving the Curtains open for at least 2-4 hours. This helps to train the Curtains into position and gives the Curtain heading a ‘memory’ so it will hang at its very best.
  • For the same reason, we advise not to close your Curtains after the initial installation for at least 2-4 hours. Whenever ribbon has been applied by our installers, please leave this on for as long as possible.
  • Curtain fabrics may move up or down due to temperature changes. Be tolerant of small fluctuations in lengths of Curtains. Fabrics are never completely stable. They breathe and absorb moisture, reacting to atmospheric changes, resulting in stretching or shrinking. This is completely normal and is a unique characteristic of soft furnishing fabrics.
  • If Curtain Tracks are cord controlled, then always use the cords provided rather than trying to pull the Curtains open by hand as this can cause the cord to fall out of the track and cause a cord jam.
  • If Curtain Tracks have a cord or wand control, then always use these to open or close your Curtains. Limit opening or closing your Curtains by hand as this can soil the fabric.

Blinds.

  • Check any Blind Care Labels before proceeding to clean.
  • Blinds should be regularly dusted and the front of the fabric gently wiped over once a month to help avoid any harsh cleaning.
  • Plasticised fabrics and Sunscreen Roller Blind fabrics can be wiped down using a damp cloth and warm soapy water or mild detergent. Do not vigorously rub the fabric which will cause damage.
  • Flock-back Blind fabrics must be treated more carefully. Do not leave them wet or use any type of cleaner. Try and remove any marks from the front of the fabric by using a damp cloth and gently tease at the spot. Please be aware that spot cleaning with too much pressure can cause water marks on the fabric.
  • Soft Roman Blinds made in Curtain fabrics may move up or down due to weather changes. This is completely normal and is a unique characteristic of soft furnishing fabrics.

Cellular Blinds.

Cellular Blinds are easy to clean and are designed to be dust resistant.

Bathtub (BT)

  • Fill a tub with warm water and mild detergent.
  • Open the Blind and immerse the fabric into the water, do not submerge the headrail.
  • Rinse with clean water.
  • Fully close the Blind and tilt it to allow excess water to drain off.
  • Reinstall the damp Blind, lower it and let it dry completely.

Ultrasonic (US)

Professional ultrasonic cleaning services are an effective means of cleaning translucent fabrics only.
General care (GC)

Dust with a feather duster, compressed air or a hair dryer set on cool.
Vacuum (VC)

Gently vacuum with a brush attachment.
Spot clean (SC)

Using warm water and mild detergent, dampen a clean white cloth and gently dab the spot on the fabric only (please note: rubbing can damage fabrics).

Shutters.

  • Shutters are virtually maintenance free! Just dust regularly and wipe down with a soft damp cloth as required.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or scourers as these will damage the finish.

Awnings.

  • Awnings and Outdoor Blinds should be raised during windy and stormy weather, especially if this type of weather is forecast and you will not be home.
  • Leaving Awnings and Outdoor Blinds down during strong winds and/or rain is not recommended as it may damage your Awning.
  • Do not scrub the fabric or use harsh soaps, detergents, solvents, other liquid cleansers or any bleaches.
  • Immediately remove dirty marks and mildew by first softly brushing and then hosing the fabric down well with cold water.
